The Missions Team at York United Methodist Church is hosting a live Public Auction to benefit UMCOR'S CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION IN NICARAGUA PROJECT and the LOVE AND HOPE CHILDREN'S HOME in EL SALVADOR following worship services on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2010, at 12:15 pm. Also, from 8:00 am until 10:55 am, a Silent Auction will be held for additional items not able to be included in the Live Auction. Everyone is welcome to attend. Donations are currently being accepted at the church. We welcome your support whether through corporate or personal donation, or though your attendance at the auction on September 12th. A free light lunch will be provided. Find some treasures or gifts for family and friends at our auction while raising funds to save lives through clean water wells and also, hopefully, helping to send children from the Love and Hope Children's Home to school in a safe environment. Our goal is to raise funds for 25 wells at $115 each, with any funds raised beyond that goal going to the children's school fund at the Love and Hope Home. Come join us for the auction ~ or anytime!

We hope to help families in Nicaragua have access to clean water by providing a rope pump for their wells at a cost of only $115.00 each. Over half the people who live in Nicaragua's rural communities do not have access to clean drinking water or sanitary facilities. Most people obtain their water from uncovered wells, open water holes, or streams that are not protected from animal or human contamination. Water and hygiene-related illnesses are largely responsible for the high death rates among children in Nicaragua. Through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) , El Porvenir in Nicaragua uses simple technology and basic materials for community construction of hand-dug wells, spring enclosures, latrines, washing facilities with bathing stalls, and fuel-saving smoke-free cooking stoves for women. This methodology helps keep future repair and maintenance easy and affordable for the villagers. The program also guarantees community ownership requiring 100% of the labor to be provided by community members. UMCOR's administration fees are paid through separate funding so that all monies raised through this sale will go directly to the Nicaragua Clean Water Project. The Love and Hope Children's Home is a place where a home and family are provided to children who have been denied these basic needs because of the death of their parents, or because of complete abandonment. They work to give the closest experience of a family environment as possible. The children there share in day-to-day home care responsibilities, are certain to attend school, and have food, clothing, recreation, medical and school expenses covered by the supporters of Love and Hope. You may Google Love and Hope Children's Home El Salvador for links and videos of their home and good works. Your support of our Mission Auction will enable us to help them continue to provide Love and Hope to the children they serve.
