ORMACO to Feature Leading Masters of Klezmer Music~
ORMACO is sponsoring the The Greenman/Rushefsky Duo at the Soprema Senior Center on Friday, April 21, from 1:00 - 2:00. Steven Greenman (violin) and Pete Rushefsky (tsimbl) are two of the world's leading masters of klezmer music. They perform traditional music as well as new compositions rooted in the klezmer tradition. Audiences are transported to a world of the Jewish shtetls (towns) and cities of 19th and early 20th century Europe as they enjoy virtuosic showpieces for the Jewish wedding table (tish), lively dance music, and soulful melodies (nigunim). The playful and delicate interaction of violin and tsimbl mesmerizes the listener.

Vanguard artists in today's Klezmer music scene, Greenman and Rushefsky have performed at numerous leading venues and festivals internationally, including Carnegie Hall, Cleveland's Severance Hall, Lincoln Center, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, New York's 92nd Stret Y, the Krakow Festival of Jewish Music and Culture, The Vienna KleMore Festival.

Described by the Washington Post as "particularly impressive" and "extraordinary" by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Greenman is a multi-talented musical artist, who is equally adept at performing stunning solo violin works with symphony orchestras, soulful East European Jewish folk music (klezmer) and passionate East European Romani (Gypsy) music. Rushefsky is a leading revivalist of the tsimbl. As a composer, he has worked to promote a performance system for contemporary klezmer known as Concert Form Klezmer that draws inspiration from Eastern classical music and Jewish mysticism. Rushefksy most recently toured with violinist Itzhak Perlman in a program/recording titled Eternal Echoes: Songs and Dances for the Soul. He has also been featured on PBS's Great Performances, A Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered and American Routes.
