Concerts will continue every Friday through Friday, July 27th. A special July 4th concert is planned as well. All concerts will begin at 8:30p.
This concert has the title - “gone to the dogs.” Please join us to celebrate Medina’s warm relationship with her canine family members through special music and treats.
Featured soloists for the concert will be: James Albrecht, trombone, who will perform Arthur Pryor’s “Thoughts of Love;” Kevin Wallick, cornet, who will perform Herbert L. Clarke’s “From the Shores of the Mighty Pacific;” Amy Muhl, piccolo, who will be performing Pryor’s “Whistler and His Dog” and, Mary Ann Grof-Neiman, clarinet, who will perform Vittorio Monti’s “Csárdás” and George Gershwin’s “Walking the Dog.”
Featured ensembles for the concert will be: Amy Muhl & Sue McLaughlin, piccolo duet, who will perform Sebastian Mayr’s “Birds of the Forest” and Kevin Wallick, cornet and George Rosin, trombone, who will perform Clarke’s “Cousins.”
Maestro Neiman will conduct the band in Karl King’s overture “Royal Emblem;” Sousa’s march “Solid Men to the Front and, “Stars and Stripes Forever;” and Milt Hall’s “Mr. Thomas Cat.” In conjunction with the Bicentennial of the City of Medina, Medina Community Band will feature selections written and/or performed during the period of 1898 through 1918. Associate conductor David Roth will conduct the rarely heard Joplin march “Majestic.”
Concerts by the Medina Community Band traditionally last approximately one hour and are patterned after outdoor band concerts in the 1880s through 1930s and feature concert overtures, solos by instrumentalists and vocalists, as well as popular selections, and lots and lots of marches. For listings of all concerts, visit the band’s website (www.medinacommunityband.org). Area social and civic groups will be featured as summer social hosts providing light refreshments at a reasonable donation during each concert. The June 29th concert will feature Aktion Club, sponsored by Medina Breakfast Kiwanis Club as social host.
Marcus Neiman conducts Medina Community Band and will be joined in the conducting duties by David Roth (associate conductor) and John Connors (assistant conductor). Medina Community Band is proudly sponsored and supported by the Medina Community Band Association, composed of members of Medina Community Band. The board of directors consists of Lu Ann Gresh, president; Vicki Smith, vice president; Gail Sigmund, financial secretary; Amy Muhl, treasurer; Sue McLaughlin, secretary; with directors Margaret Blasko, John Connors, and, Robert Moore.
