Medina Community Band Presents Annual Spring Concert – Sunday, May 5^th, 2p  

Medina:  The Medina Community Band, under the baton of Marcus Neiman, will present their annual spring concert on Sunday, May 5^th, at 2p, Medina High School Middle Stage Auditorium, 777 East Union Street (Medina 44256).  Admission and parking to the concert are complimentary.  Parking is available in lots B (off Union St.) and D (off Weymouth Rd.).

Featured instrumental soloist with Medina Community Band will be Sadie Nayman, performing Cécile Chaminade’s Concertino, Op. 107 for flute.  Featured ensemble with Medina Community Band will be a brass sextet performing Sextet from Lucia di Lammermoor.

Selections will include English Folksong Suite (Vaughan Williams); Marche Hongroise - Rákóczi (from Damnation of Faust) (Berlioz); Cha Cha from Four Dances from ‘West Side Story’ (Bernstein); and, Fly Me to the Moon (Howard).  Also featured will be Esprit De Corps March (Sousa); The Elephant March (Hume); and, After the Cake Walk (Dett)

The Medina Community Bandhas been recognized by the John Philip Sousa Foundation for its historic importance and impact on the present-day community band effort with the Sudler Silver Scroll Historic Community Band Award for 2015.  The basis for the award is in the existence of a community band for more than 100 years, as well as having played a significant and leading role in the cultural and musical environment in their community. 

Medina Community Band’s summer season will begin on Friday, June 7^th, at 8:30p on the Historic Medina Public Square Gazebo.  Concerts will continue weekly through Friday, July 26^th as well as the annual July 4^th concert at 8:30p.  There will not be a concert on Friday, July 5^th.

Medina Community Band is sponsored and proudly supported by the Medina Community Band Association which is composed of members of Medina Community Band.  The board of directors for the association consists of Lu Ann Gresh, president;

Amy Muhl, vice-president; Karen Sater, treasurer; Sue McLaughlin, secretary; and directors John Connors, Dr. Thomas Kenat, Bob Moore, Gail Sigmund, and Kristin Thompson. 

Membership is open and there are no dues or auditions; however, members are expected to maintain a regular attendance.  The band rehearses on Wednesday evening from 7p through 9p in the band room of the Highland High School (4150 Ridge Road, Medina) September through the end of July; providing three to four concerts during the fall, winter, and spring months both at home and on the road.  The band also presents their popular summer series every Friday, June through July, in Medina's Uptown Park Gazebo.  Each year the band presents at a holiday season concert, spring concert, and the popular "Sousa Concert" at EHOVE Career Center (Milan, OH).
