Our April speaker is Mike Schmidt, adjunct professor at the University of Akron, gallery director and adjunct professor of drawing and painting at Mt.
Union University. Mike is a graduate of Highland High School, the Cleveland Institute of Art and studied drawing and painting at California State
University, Long Beach. His program will cover a multitude of subjects and examples of his art work, including
• The poetry in gesture and art making
• Collaborations of art/music/theatre
• Stop motion animation
• The role of spectacle in culture/society
• How charcoal, pencil, and ink can tell intense stories
• Time as a medium
Intrigued? This promises to be a one-of-a-kind presentation! Come with an open mind and leave with a sense of awe. You can see some of Mike’s work on Instagram: michaelschmidtart, on FB, and michaelschmidt.tumblr.com.
There will be a brief business meeting, and of course, art trivia shall return! There will also be some art supplies for sale that were donated by the family of Leslie Chiamachella.
