Qin Ying Tan: Harpsichord

Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) and the Medina County District Library present Cleveland-based harpsichordist Qin Ying Tan at 6:30 pm on October 6, 2021, in a live stream Zoom program. Tan will present a program of suites from the Baroque era, as well as newly-written dance-inspired compositions from the 20th century. Featured composers include Johann Sebastian Bach, Francois Couperin, Chen Zhangyi and Timothy Brown. The program will be repeated live at ORMACO’s HeARTland on October 10, 2021, at 2 pm at 8187 Camp Road, Homerville, OH 44235.

About the Artist

Qin Ying Tan, from Singapore, is a historical keyboardist, pianist and baroque dancer based in Cleveland, Ohio.  Tan’s passion for historical performance has brought her to Singapore, Malaysia, Shanghai, Germany, France, and the United Sates.  Tan has performed at the Kent Chamber Music Festival in Chestertown, the Singapore Embassy in Washington D.C., the Berkeley Early Music Festival, and the Boston Early Music Festival.  She has performed concertos with the Baltimore Baroque Band, the Case Baroque Orchestra, and the Charm City Baroque.

Qin Ying graduated from Cleveland Institute of Music in August 2019 with a Doctoral of Musical Arts Degree in harpsichord performance and was recently appointed collaborative keyboardist at the Historical Performance Practice Department at Case Western Reserve University.  She also holds triple master’s degrees from Peabody Institute of Music in piano performance, harpsichord performance, and musicology, and was awarded the Excellence in Early Music upon graduation. Other accolades include prizes and awards from the International Young Artists’ Piano Competition, the Trailblazer Foundation, the Eileen Southern Grant from the America Musicological Society, and multiple full scholarships from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and the Peabody Institute of Music at the Johns Hopkins University.

Tan currently serves as music director at Heights Christian Church in Shaker Heights, Cleveland.  She also holds the position of co-artistic director at the Resonance Masters’ Series in Bellevue, Washington.
