Join Fair Districts Ohio volunteers for a free, virtual presentation, Redistricting 101, designed to answer your questions about drawing new districts in Ohio in 2021. The new redistricting laws for state legislative districts and U.S. congressional districts were passed by over 70% of voters and in all 88 counties in 2015 and 2018. Presenters from Medina County are trained members of the non-partisan Fair Districts Ohio Coalition Speakers Bureau and will review the redistricting reforms; explain gerrymandering and why it needs to go; and let you know how you can tell map makers and legislators what is important about your community to ensure fair maps for Ohio for the next decade.
Redistricting only happens once every ten years after the U. S. census is completed. The numbers are used to redraw all state and federal legislative districts. Whether you consider yourself a Republican, Democrat, Independent, or somewhere in-between, fair districts impact what you care about in your community.
This presentation will be held via a zoom meeting. To sign up using SignUpGenius (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4BABA92CA3FBC25-redistricting) or send email to FairDistrictsMedinaCo@gmail.com.
The presentation will last approximately 1 hour and include a demonstration of community mapping. An additional presentation will be offered on June 1st.
